Floyd's Holistic Healthcare Series

Beginning January 12th and running every other Tuesday through July, Floyd's diverse network of holistic providers will take turns highlighting their areas of expertise. Each session will run from 7 to 8:30pm with time for questions.

Jan. 12th
Energy Medicine Modalities
Christine Behrens, Certified Quantum Biofeedback Technician and Certified Quantum-Touch® practitioner, has 35 years experience with Holistic Healing Modalities. She will present a short power point presentation and brief demonstration on Quantum Biofeedback and share a brief discussion about other Energy medicine modalities such as Quantum-Touch, Scalar-Laser cold laser treatments and venues such as homeopathy and Bach flower remedies.

Ayurveda, the Science of Self-Healing
Aaron Staengl, certified Ayurvedic practitioner by the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, NM, will explain the basic principles and theory of Ayurveda, the ancient medicinal system of India. He will also give some practical tools on how to understand your unique body's constitution as well as the Ayurvedic perspective on certain western and local herbs.

The Benefits of Massage for the Elderly
Miriam Brancato, Certified Massage Therapist, BIS and Sports Massage Instructor, will enumerate the many ways and reasons why massage and touch are beneficial for the elderly. She will discuss components of the skin as an organ of reception and how we are influenced by this as well as specific conditions and diseases such as arthritis and osteoporosis and how massage may help. She will also note cautions and contraindications to receiving massage

Traditional Chinese Medicine
Marcie Stout, Licensed Acupuncturist, MTCM, will share her knowledge of the Chinese Medical Perspective. She will incorporate Yin/Yang Theory, Ba Gong, acupuncture, and the physiological, emotional and spiritual aspect of the organs.

Prenatal Health and Wellness with the Midwifery Model of Care
Sam Steffens is a traditional community DEM and primary midwife under the supervision of a licensed midwife and a midwives' assistant and postpartum Doula since 2007. She is currently working towards the national certification to become a Certified Professional Midwife CPM. She has been certified in care provider CPR, NNR and has been an EMT since 2006.

Posture in Relationship to Health
Shirley-Ann Burgess, Certified Rolfer™, Rolf Movement® Therapist, LMT, CMT, Yoga Instructor and founder of the Living Light Holistic Health Center in Floyd, will present the history of Rolfing, share a short demo and give an interactive movement lesson on sitting, standing, walking and how your posture affects your health.

Reflexology
Elisha Reygle, CMT, an instructor at the Blue Ridge School of Massage and Yoga, will be sharing the modality of reflexology, the concept that all the systems of the entire body are reflected and affected through the feet, hands and ears. There will be a lecture as well as hands-on practice time.

Sugar Blues Workshop
Margaret Gray, Certified Holistic Health Counselor, will give a brief power point demonstration showing the cumulative generational consequences of consuming sugar and processed food. This will be followed by a workshop where participants will learn tactics for breaking the cycle of sugar addiction and learn how to bring the body into balance.

Bio Craniosacral Therapy
Laurelsong Staengl, CST, will talk about how Bio Craniosacral Therapy works and how it can help with traumas, dissociation, withdrawal, compression and strains anywhere in the body from muscles, bones, blood vessels and nerves. Allowing the influx of potency in the cerebrospinal fluid revitalizes the body, resets certain base systems like the autonomic nervous system, brings a deeper state of balance and helps normalize its functions. This benefits both acute and chronic conditions.

And more to come! Keep an eye out for more Holistic Health Network members in June and July. They will include Pilates instructors, chiropractors, meditation teachers, shiatsu and naturopathic doctors, yoga instructors and massage therapists.
